ENKELin kolmannella Love Hurts -studioalbumilla rakkaus sattuu ja satojen vuosien takaiset hitit muuttuvat tutuista tuoreiksi. ENKEL on lähes 10-vuotias kansanmusiikkiyhtye, jonka rikas sointimaailma muodostuu kahden diatonisen haitarin, 15-kielisen kanteleen ja alttoviulun sekä neljän persoonallisen lauluäänen liitosta. “Love Hurts sai kypsyä pitkään. Valitsimme kappaleet huolella ja sovituksiin paneuduttiin meille tyypillisesti suurella intohimolla ja lempeydellä. Lähes kymmenen vuotta yhteissoittoa, puhumattakaan haitaristiemme yli 25-vuotisesta yhteisestä soittourasta, kuuluvat mielestämme levyllämme rauhana, liimana ja vivahteikkaina yksityiskohtina. Juhlimme levyllä entisen tyttöbändin aikuistumista.” yhtyeen jäsenet kertovat. Love Hurts jatkaa yhtyeen tuttua linjaa: perinteisiin melodioihin ja sanoihin on etsitty uusi, ajankohtainen kulma ja sovitukset rakennettu taiten yhtyeen epätavallista sointimaailmaa hyödyntäen. Rakkaus ikiaikaisena teemana lävistää koko teoksen. Sanattomat ja lauletut rakkauslaulut käsittelevät niin rakkauden löytymistä, menettämistä ja ajoittaista tuskallisuuttakin kuin helliä lapsuusmuistoja sekä huolta ja kaipuuta rintamalla olevista läheisistä.

Love Hurts is the third studio album of ENKEL. ENKEL are a Finnish folk music quartet made up of two melodeons, kantele, viola and four voices; four personable, unique and folky women with their instruments, sharing a great passion for traditional music and forever actual folk songs and danceable hit tunes. The Love Hurts album had a good time to mature. ”We took our time picking the tunes and giving them love and attention over the years. We feel it can be heard in the result”, the band members say. The arrangements are put together very carefully which has always been a trademark of the band. The title ’Love Hurts’ pierces the whole album as a strong and everlasting theme. On the album you can find all kinds of love songs: instrumental and sung, about finding a soulmate, losing one, worrying of your nearbys in the war and feeling nostalgic towards the childhood friendship. The majority of the traditional repertoire are dance tunes from the Western parts of Finland which are companied by a couple of melodies from the Medieval era from Eastern parts of Finland and Karelia. The traditional tracks are spiced up with the compositions of the band members. With the third album ENKEL continues their growth as a band. It cherishes a new, more mature side of the folk music girl band. Almost ten years of playing together, not even mentioning the 25 years of common path of the accordionist, results as groovy, precisely together played and nuanced tracks from Finnish polka to different kinds of polskas to retro style foxtrott.
