Nikolai Blad & Ikiranka

Kuvaus

Nikolai Blad & Ikiranka esittävät yhteisen "Kansalainen Lehtinen"-levyn musiikkia. Desibeli.net kirjoitti levystä: "Blad on kuin puuttuva lenkki Vladimir Vysotskin ja Tom Waitsin väliltä". Nikolain suomenkielisiä lauluja on kutsuttu muun muassa "tajunnanvirtafolkiksi".

Shortly in English

Nikolai Blad & Ikiranka perform music from their joint album "Kansalainen Lehtinen". "In August 2021, the people from Ikiranka called and asked if I would like to make an album with them. I knew already Juha Kujanpää, who had played on my two previous song albums, and Teemu Korpıpää, who had engineered my 1990s albums. I thought this was a great help and started preparing songs and then coming up with ideas for arrangements for them together," says Nikolai about the early stages of this project. It soon became apparent that it would be difficult to agree on common working hours, as Ikiranka's top musicians were so busy. Grants were applied for with little success. Then in the summer of 2024, a crowdfunding opportunity was invented through Kulttuurilahja. The collection yielded the amount needed for the album printing and other publication costs. In the songs on the album, Blad develops his surreal visions further and includes descriptions of vulnerability and fleeting moments, as well as one Christmas song (White Deer). Slavic blues stories also contain humor and absurd twists. Nikolai acknowledges his debt to V. Vysotsky as a songwriter, and one of his cover songs, “The Lie and the Truth,” ended up on the album. “Vysotsky interpretations have been well received at my gigs, so I had to include one,” explains Nikolai. “Ikiranga’s playing brings depth, pounding, soundscapes, and even sparkling lightness to my songs, which the man and the guitar were able to follow happily,” Nikolai enthuses, continuing: “Those musicians have shown great flexibility, the ability to transform and big ears for my songs.” The musical range of Ikiranga’s musicians is unparalleled. It ranges from Ismo Alango's band to Finnish-Benin ethno fusion, from free improvisation to big band arrangements, from theatre music to joyful children's music and contemporary dance to the construction of midi-controlled instruments and contemporary electronic music. The trio's own music flows in its own vein between folk music, ambient and jazz.
