Albumi sisältää historiallista 1800-luvun harmonikkaohjelmistoa ja diatoniselle vaihtoääniselle harmonikalle sävellettyjä originaaliteoksia. Levyllä kuullaan mm. ranskalaisen Louise Reisnerin 12-osainen teos Thême Varié Très Brillant, jota pidetään varhaisimpana tunnettuna harmonikkasävellyksenä. Säveltäjä itse esitti teoksen Pariisin kuuluisassa Hotel-de-Ville -salissa vuonna 1836. Italiassa sävellettiin harmonikalle omaa musiikkia jo 1840-luvulla. Siitä näytteenä levyllä on Lombardian maakunnassa Ostigliassa vaikuttaneen pappi-opettaja-urkuri Giuseppe Greggiatin sävellyksiä. Muita levyn säveltäjänimiä ovat H.C. Lumbye, G. Donizetti, G. F. Händel, F. Flotow, J. Gungl ja V. Bellini. Levyn ohjelmisto on sukellus aiemmin tuntemattomaan eurooppalaisen harmonikan soivaan historiaan. Lepistö innostui harmonikan varhaishistorian tutkimisesta jo runsas kymmenen vuotta sitten Taideyliopiston Sibelius-Akatemiassa. Tutkimustyön kautta Lepistö tutustui saksalais-tanskalais-ruotsalais-suomalaiseen harmonikkataiteilija Martin Pauliin, (1843 Rendsburg, Tanska–1893 Viipuri, Suomi), josta tuli tämän levyn suuri innoittaja. Oman konserttitoiminnan kautta Paul toi esille harmonikan mahdollisuudet monipuolisen musiikin esittämiseen jo ennen kromaattisten harmonikkojen tuloa.

MARKKU LEPISTÖ (originally born in Kuortane) is one of the best-known proponents of new Finnish and Nordic accordion music. In February 2021 he released a debut album "European Soirée" with the Finnish harpsichordist-pianist-organist ILPO LASPAS. The album consists of both original works for accordion and a collection of popular classical repertoire from the 19th century, played with the accordion. Besides performing folk tunes and other popular repertoire, accordion music proper was composed in France and Italy already during the first decades of the 19th century. Accordion artist and pedagogue Louise Reisner, who worked in Paris, composed in 1836 the opus "Thême varié très brilliant" including a theme and variations, hitherto known as the earliest accordion composition. Giuseppe Greggiati, a priest, organist and teacher in Italy’s Lombardy, composed tens of accordion pieces in the 1840’s. Other composers on this record are H.C. Lumbye, G. Donizetti, G. F. Handel, F. Flotow, J. Gungl and V. Bellini. "The history of this European Soirée CD you’re holding dates back to over ten years when I started to study the early history of Finnish 19th century accordion as a new postgraduate student at the Sibelius Academy of Uniarts Helsinki. By my going through thousands of newspaper clips, the previously unknown history of accordion in our country unfolded in its entirety. Through my study I also discovered the most forgotten artist in Finnish (maybe in a larger perspective in the whole) history of accordion, Martin Paul (1843 Rendsburg, Denmark–1893 Vyborg, Finland). He has been a great inspiration to this record.", Lepistö tells.
